(1) Yucatan: The path of the Maya

5 days, 4 nights

Overview:
Explore the ancient Mayan civilization, with a touch of modernity. Using Playa del Carmen as the base camp, you’ll see the best of the best Mayan ruins the Yucatan peninsula has to offer. Then it’s off to explore the vibrant off shore reefs with world class visibility. The scuba diving and snorkeling is known as some of the best in the world.

The Basics:
You’ll fly into Cancun airport and go directly south to Playa del Carmen. Stay in a beachfront villa in the electric town of Playa del Carmen, known for its turquoise water, international cuisine and fun nightlife. Drive to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza (one of the Seven Wonders of the World). Visit ancient Mayan city of Tulum along the Yucatan peninsula. Visit off shore reefs for snorkeling or scuba diving. Explore the tropical extremes on the island of Cozumel on a Vespa scooter.

Additional options:
Zip line tour through the jungle.
Snorkeling/scuba diving in Cenotes or Mexican sink holes.
Spend a day at the Xel Ha water park.
Visit the Kuxi Kaax Spider monkey sanctuary

Physical difficulty: EASY

Just got back from Playa Del Carmen with Croft and the crew. Pretty epic week all around. Definitely nice to not have to plan anything or worry about where we are going next. My brain doesn’t like to move too fast when im on vacation (especially after the nightlife in playa) so this was just what I needed. Nice mix of Mayan ruins and relaxing on the beach.

Traveling with CGT is a very unique experience, much different from any other vacations I have planned and gone on using any other group or agency. CGT provides the perfect amount of planning and coordination needed to fill your days on vacation with excitement and desired knowledge of your surroundings, but not too much where you might feel overwhelmed and pressed for time. On the Trail of the Maya Yucatan adventure, we were snorkelling off the coast of Cozumel witnessing breath-taking aquatic life just beneath the vibrant blue waters one day and then walking around one of the 7 wonders of the world the next at Chichen Itza the next. All of the activities take place on whatever schedule you choose to dictate to your guide, so there is no "by-the-book" demeanor that is followed, you say what you want to do and the rest is taken care of for you. On the other hand, if you feel just like lounging on the beach all day and doing absolutely nothing then that is exactly what you will do. I can’t emphasize enough the level of relaxation that is felt on CGT vacations so what are you waiting for, book one and see for yourself!

I am normally a hands-on person, but I did absolutely no preparation for this trip. However, I completely trusted Croft to provide an excellent trip and he DID! Just like a good host, he asked everyone their input during the trip, but I usually defaulted to the suggested plan. One of the best parts in traveling with Croft is his knowledge of so many cultures in a practical sense. Driving around different towns, he pointed out unique Mayan culture activities and related them to his days living in the Dominican Republic. His street smarts and quest to learn intrigues me and motivates me as well. This trip was filled with a lot of different types of activities (Tulum, Scuba Diving in Cozumel, Chichen-Itza, Cenotes and much more) which is characteristic of the other Croft Global Travel trips. This provides a great overall and complete experience. I am already looking to my calendar to see when I can take another Croft Global Travel vacation!!!
