FAQ
1. What exactly is adventure travel?
We define adventure travel or experiential travel simply as a vacation involving either (1) nature (2) a cultural exchange (3) a physical activity or any combination. Each of CGT’s trips is designed to accomplish all of these goals. Take cooking classes in Thailand, learn to dance the samba in Rio de Janeiro, practice yoga on the beach in Nicaragua, get scuba certified in the Galapagos… the options are endless.
2. What is included in the price of each trip?
Below each of the destination vacations is a base price. The base prices include: an experienced guide, all lodging/accommodations, all ground transportation, some food where mentioned, gas, tolls, included excursions, park entrance fees, local tips. Not included: International or domestic flights, additional excursions, travel visas, all other food/drink unless specified. CGT’s clients arrive from all over the world to start the trip, so it is nearly impossible to include international airfare in the price. We would be happy to assist you to arrange your flights.
Any modification to a trip package can be negotiated in advance and additional costs may apply. Prices are subject to change without prior notice due to exchange rate fluctuations, dates and availability. All prices assume double occupancy. Single traveler rates are of course available and we can give you a quote (for the single traveler adjustment).
3. Can I make changes to a trip?
The beauty of CGT is the customization and flexibility for our clients. The destination options should be used as a base for your trip and we can adjust it to meet your group’s overall vacation goals. Once you decide your group size, dates, and location, we can begin to plan your custom trip.
4. Who is the average traveler with CGT?
There is no cookie-cutter CGT traveler. Young professionals to married couples to seniors, multiple demographics have used CGT’s guided trips to accomplish a common goal: see the world. We offer travel to a wide variety of locations with a wide variety of activities. As long as you have the desire to travel internationally with an open mind, your group’s size, age, nationality, and/or past travel experience is irrelevant to us.
5. What kind of physical shape do I need to be in for these trips?
Each trip is evaluated based on a degree of overall physical difficulty. Destination vacations may be deemed Easy, Moderate, or Advanced. However, certain activities may be substituted in any case to make a trip more or less physically demanding. We can modify any vacation to suit your specific group’s needs.
6. How is CGT different from a travel agent?
Some reasons why CGT vacations are different from other vacations:
Experienced Private Guides – Your own expert guide and personal vehicle allows your group to relax and have flexibility to travel at your own pace.
Custom Trips – Your group’s trip is tailor made, with advice from country experts. We’ll make you feel more like a local and less like a tourist.
Reliability – Your private guide is there for navigation, translation and negotiation before and during the trip. We sweat the details so you can relax and enjoy yourself.
Safety – Many travelers have reservations travelling to new places alone. Our experienced guides go to great length to secure your safety so you can concentrate on enjoying your vacation.
Meet new people – Choosing to join an open trip is a great way to discover a new destination and meet new people with similar interests in the process. Past clients have met new friends (and significant others!) while traveling with us.
7. Am I obligated to travel with a tour guide?
No. While our trips include guides, you may choose to fly solo. See the Custom Trips section for trip planning ideas such as Language Schools, Around the World vacations, and Volunteer opportunities.
8. What is the difference between a destination adventure and a spotlight adventure?
A “Destination adventure” is any one of the trips outlined on the website. A “spotlight adventure” is a special trip to certain places or events that are open to anyone who wishes to go. These trips are advertised via our newsletter and our Facebook page. To sign up for our newsletter please refer to the home page. Spotlight adventures are first-come first-serve basis and may have a maximum capacity due to availability, logistics and time of year.
9. Can I speak with travelers from past trips for a reference?
Absolutely! You may see a list of references and testimonials from past CGT travelers in the Travel Family section. For more information, you may also contact them directly.
10. Can you arrange trips to destinations not specifically mentioned on the site?
CGT can plan your trip even if you don’t see your vacation among our destinations. In fact, we welcome it! We are constantly exploring new locations in new markets to serve our travelers. Contact us directly if you have a new destination so we can tailor a trip to fit your needs. Check out our Custom Trips section in the Destinations tab for some ideas.
11. What travel consulting services do you offer?
In addition to destinations, CGT offers travel consulting. Ever had a desire to step foot on every continent? We can help. See the Seven Continents section for more details. Want to visit each of the “New Seven Wonders of the World” yourself? We can help. See the Seven Wonders section for more details. Any travel related question you might have, don’t be afraid to ask. We don’t bite.
12. What is the benefit of a bilingual guide?
Too many to name. When traveling to a foreign country, knowledge of language is vital. With our guides, you can assume you have: a translator (always handy), a navigator (don’t worry about directions), a negotiator (why pay more?), a teacher (in your own language) and a security guard (we’ve got your back). Knowing the language will helps you fit in and live more like a local. Above all else, our guides let you turn your brain off, so you can enjoy your vacation.
13. How big are the average spotlight adventures?
Size of spotlight adventures will vary depending on location and logistics. Please sign up for the CGT newsletter to get e-mail updates about spotlight adventures.
14. How big are the average trips?
Most trips have a minimum of 4 people in a group. There is no specific maximum, but trips over 10 people will require special arrangements and therefore will need to be booked at least two months in advance.
15. What if I have to cancel?
It happens. Everyone’s human. You can cancel up to one month without losing your deposit. Two weeks before you can get half the cost of your trip returned. Cancelling with two weeks or less notice means you forfeit the cost of the trip.
